THERAPIES
THERAPEUTIC PLASMA EXCHANGE

HOW IT WORKS

FILTERED

When therapeutic plasma exchange is performed with a highly permeable filter and dialysis equipment, it is often referred to as membrane plasma separation (MPS). MPS on the PRISMAFLEX System is achieved by plasma filtration with simultaneous infusion of a replacement solution.

INFUSED

During TPE, plasma is removed and pumped through the large-pore membrane of the plasma filter, while a colloid solution, such as albumin and/or plasma, or a combination of crystalloid/colloid solution, is infused post-plasma filter to replace the removed plasma.

MONITORED
During TPE, PRISMAFLEX System software uses monitored pressure values to calculate Access Transmembrane Pressure (TMPa), in addition to the filter pressure drop.
  • Renal indications for TPE continue to expand4
  • Studies have shown Membrane Plasma Exchange (MPE) to be similarly safe and effective compared to centrifugation22-27
  • May be significantly more cost effective than contracted mobile apheresis services4
