COVID-19 EMERGENCY SUPPORT

IMPACT ON AKI AND CRRT

  • Even in COVID patients who have normal kidney function at hospital admission, the risk for acute kidney injury (AKI) is very high.28
    • There is some evidence that COVID-19 interferes with kidney function itself.28
    • The rate is increased greatly in the setting of severe respiratory failure and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).31
  • The Percentage of Intubated ICU patients with AKI that necessitates Renal Replacement Therapy has been reported between 15-40%.28,29,31
  • The consequences of AKI in mechanically ventilated patients are important, as the independent mortality of AKI in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 30–50%, and patients with combined respiratory failure and AKI have a mortality of 60–80%.30
